playingrockbandNo one, as of yet, has completed a scientific study to determine why it is that the comfy sofas and engaging video games at Rollerplex lowers blood pressure and brings smiles and warm feelings of tranquility to those who immerse themselves into the Rollerplex state of being.  Since the Fullmers took back the direction of Rollerplex, feelings are good again and their youth qualifier on Jan. 23rd-25th signaled the return to fun times that so many families have come to know.

missionaz10u Division

Though the Mission AZ Stars will most likely not attend the AIHA state championships in May, the kids and families of the team had a great time and watched their kids battle it out with the Casey’s Crushers for the 10uA championship.  The Crushers had not lost an AIHA qualifier all season until Dan Maxwell””s tight team of Mission AZ Stars put the heat on the Crushers in the final round robin game.  Both teams entered the last game of the tournament undefeated.  The difference maker was Tony Cimato of the StarsTony scored the go-ahead goal and Trey Bagwell scored the winning assist for the Stars in the last 3 minutes of play to break a 2-2 tie against the CrushersStars goalie, Kyle Zimmerle was fantastic in allowing a total of only 4 goals on 52 shots on net.  In the 10uB division, it was all Team Excalibur 98””s as Tanner Paterno was unstoppable against Yuma Blaze and Prescott Storm as he notched 7 goals and 1 assist through the tournament to help Team Excalibur take the 10uB championship title.

12u Division

Rollerplex Panthers continued their domination of the 12uA division as their scoring tandem of Robby Goldsmith and Ryan Briody tallied a combined total of 9 goals and 8 assists between them and put the Panthers in great position to finish all of their games in great shape.  The Panthers were challenged by Yuma Blaze Black and Team Excalibur, but excellent team goaltending between Bobby Nagel and Brianna Carroll kept two of the hottest scoring threats, Jack Allen of Yuma Blaze Black and Alex MacDonald of Casey’s Crushers Blue completely in check when the game was on the line.

In what has to be an exciting time for the independent team of the Sharp Shooters is that they are perhaps the most improved team in the entire 12uA/B division.  It””s not that the Sharp Shooters are just putting the puck into the net, it””swyleryancy12b how they are doing it that makes sense.  Between the 5 top Sharp Shooter scorers of Sam Goff, Blake Heckathorn, Alex Setzer, Wyler Yancy and Alex Centa they tallied an astounding total of 22 assists, more than 3 times more than any other team in the division.  Needless to say, the Sharpshooters waltzed through the other 12uB teams to take the ””B”” championship title in true team style.

14u Division

Save for one game in the 14uA division all teams put their best games on the floor.  In a tribute as to how close the division truly was, the division title came down to the last game between the Rollerplex Panthers and Hillcrest Falcons.  If Rollerplex won the game they would win the championship and Hillcrest would take 4th, if the Hillcrest Falcons won the game, they would win the title and Rollerplex would take the silver medal.  Rollerplex wound up taking the game against Hillcrest and the division title, reedbazso14awinning the last game 3-1.  Rollerplex’s Reed Bazso was a difference maker putting one in the net and assisting on 2 others in the game that mattered for the title.  The team with perhaps the biggest improvement came from Team Excalibur.  After having been moved up to the ””A”” level at the Castle qualifier, their scoring leader and the entire division scoring leader, Jacob Hernandez (6 goals, 1 assist), led his team to close and exciting finishes against the Panthers and Yuma Blaze Black.

In what was the closest contested division in the entire qualifier, the 14uB division is shaping up to be what all hockey fans want to see.  A true battle for the title.  But it was Casey’s Crushers who battled all comers and went undefeated to take the gold medal.  The Crushers had tremendous big play makers on offense with Camden Taylor and Chris Gillespie, scoring when it mattered most.  And credit the Crushers with outstanding defense while their goalie, Jimmy Curley, took on 42 shots for the tournament and allowed only 4 to go in, as he recorded one of the highest save percentages at 90.47%.  But it was the Havasu Dust Devils who really turned some heads.  Even though they lost 2 and tied 1 for the qualifier, they were in every game up until the last second and the last shot.

16u Division

So it was the Rollerplex Panthers who, for the first time, did not have to wait to take the last shot to know if they won the division title or not.  Yes, they had no trouble knocking off 16excalplexTeam Excalibur twice with not much trouble, however, Excalibur was missing a few key players from their roster.  Allison Era, Cameron Caruso and Trevor Needle, who have been vital to Team Excalibur””s unparalleled success for the last 2 seasons, were not present at the qualifier.  Rollerplex was able to flex their offensive muscles as they had 5 out of the top 6 scorers for the whole qualifier.  Rollerplex’s Jesse Rooney became the first player to top the scorers board in both club play with the Panthers and with his high school team Gila Ridge Hawks.
